We Have Walls – Part 2

DSC00803 (Medium).JPGWell there has been a lot of progress on the house over the last week. Click the photo for a nice big shot.

In 1 day the house went from studs to being completely drywalled. Within 3 days they completely mudded the walls and textured them.

Our neighbors house which is 1 day ahead of ours is having all the trim put in place so that means that ours should be going in within the next day or so.

Also, they have put all the tile floors in the kitchen, closets, and bathrooms and they have done the tile in the shower in the main bath room.

Finally, we have had the wiring for surround sound installed for ceiling speakers. OK, I have to confess, I snuck in the night before they put the drywall up and ran the wire myself. I did do it myself because -

  1. They would not let us do anything custom to the house because of the package and price that we got
  2. Even if they would have let me pay someone, why would I want to pay someone hundreds of dollars when it cost me $20 (the cost of the speaker cable)

Anyway, things are cruising along on the house so I looks like we will have it at the beginning of May (before Dan Jr. comes – Yeah!)

Recent Progress on the House

DSC00749 (Medium).JPGWell they have been steadily working on the house over the last 2 weeks.

During that time we have gone from framing and windows to a roof, electricity, and insulation. They should be starting on the drywall this week.

Also, they have leveled and grated the lot so we have a better idea of how it is going to look when it is done.

Our New House

DSC00444-2.JPGWell we went to Texas to look at houses and ended up buying one! It seems that if you want a new house you need to purchase it 5-6 months in advance.

Click here for pictures (goes to themastersfamily.net web site). Click the picture to the left to see a larger version.

We looked around several different areas around the Austin area and finally decided on Round Rock. In looking at the area and people you would think that you were in Orange County. The Round Rock area is about 20 miles north of Austin and is known as the “Little Silicone Valley”. Dell Computer is about 10 minutes from the house and they are building 2 new hospitals within 15 minutes (where Elsy will be looking for a job).

The specifics of the house are:

  • Builder: D.R. Horton
  • Square Feet: 2137
  • Rooms: 4 including a formal dining room, regular dining room, and family room.
  • Corner lot (so it is a little bit bigger the the standard size)

We had been looking at KB Homes but they were either too expensive or not in the areas that we were looking. Also, this builder offered a whole lot of things that were standard that were options with KB.

Some of the things that were included are:

  • 3 sides brick
  • Wiring for ceiling fans in every room
  • Sod in the front / back yards
  • Painted walls (instead of standard white)
  • Tile in the entry, kitchen, baths, laundry, and baths.
  • All appliances – gas stove, dishwasher, fridge, washer and dryer
  • Covered patio

The house is scheduled to be finished in June so we will be looking to move about that time.

We are really excited!

Looking at Texas

Well as most of you know already, we have a 3rd little one on the way. As much as we are excited about this does change things for us quite a bit.

The first way that it changes things is that our house is not large enough for a family of 5. With 4 we would have been alright but 5 in a 2 bedroom house is just too much. The second thing is that we feel the area that we live in isn’t the place for the kids to grow up and go to school in. We considered moving back to Corona but the houses are 1 ½ times the amount that they were when we lived there 2 years ago. Also the traffic is also 10 times worse.

Well after some research as to housing prices, job availability, and overall quality of living, we have narrowed or search down to Austin, Texas. Austin is know as the “Little Silicon Valley” in regards to jobs, has nice 2000 square feet house that start at $135,000 and has some really high rated schools for the kids.

We are planning on visiting Austin the last week of December to get a feel for the area and look at houses. Elsy’s parents will accompany us as they have accepted our invitation to move with us and retire. Both Elsy and I were really happy that they decided to move with us as they are a very large part of the kid’s life.

There will be more post in regards to our schedule for moving when we get back.
