Our First Rose Bloom

I was walking out the front door this morning and noticed that we got our first rose bloom at the house. It was about 2 months from the time that we planted the roses to when we got this bloom.

The rose bushes are small right now but I expect that over the years that they will get much larger.

We Have Trees!

The wife and I happened upon the garden section this past weekend to see what goodies might be available for the house. We had wanted to plant some trees in the backyard last year but did not get around to it early in the season and the summer was too hot to plant.

While walking up to the entrance of the garden center we noticed that they had several fruit trees available. Pushing in further we discovered bare root roses on sale. Finally I went to the back of the garden center and discovered that they had Live Oaks in stock.

I quickly went to see if my wife wanted to pick some up and she had already grabbed a cart and started filling it.

Lawn Care

My Dad is pretty good about keeping the lawn nice and cut. Dan and he struggled at first about how much they should cut the lawn. Dan finally found on the INTERNET that he should cut it 2 inches above to that it would retain the moisture of the water.

Now, the lawn looks pretty good. He is out there right now doing the sides with that little machine that cuts the edges.

Dan has also been putting extra water on the lawn, since it gets pretty hot here sometimes. The lawn will need extra water here and there.

Re: Vegetable Garden

I am still looking up ideas on what to plant in my vegetable garden. I still don’t know what exactly it will look like. I wish I had more time and money to start all my projects and finish them now.

I get anxious when I think about it. I sometimes need to calm myself and tell myself that this should be a fun and enjoyable thing to do.

I need to keep that in mind and not stress about it.

No Sprinkler System

Our house did not come with a Sprinkler System. We bought a, what you call : speck home;- A house that is all ready fabricated and you can not choose a lot of things to add. One of those things we wanted to add and could not was a sprinkler system.

This is why we have to water the lawn every day. My Dad usually takes on this task but I really don’t like to see the hose across the lawn on a daily basis which is what is happening. The reason why is because it is such a hassle to put it away and bring it out again in the evening.

I want Dan to buy one of this Hose Reel.

I think this will eliminate the problem with the hose sitting on the lawn all day long. Either of these will work for us I think. The best of them three may be the one you mount on the outside wall. This will prevent the kids from climbing on it like I know Genesis would love to do.

This will be used even after we do our Sprinkler System since I want to water the vegetable garden by hand.

The Benifits to Living in a New Neighborhood

When we moved in the I asked the Superintendent where we could get more of the brick that they used on our house as there was not any left over. He informed me that the home manual we had been given had that information along with the paint and other specific info about what was used to build our house. He also told us that they usually have other brick that is left over that they put by the super’s office tailer so that people can have it.

We have had our front flower bed destroyed a few times by the rain that is dumped by the extreme thunder storms that roll though Texas. For your information these storms have the ability to drop a foot or 2 of water in an hour - that is a lot of water pouring into your flower bed.

I have been Banned from Watering the Trees

I have been banned from watering the trees.

Why you may ask?

Because I forgot to water them for the last week and it has been 100+ degrees outside.

What happened is that I am not the one that usually waters the trees - Elsy’s dad is. The thing is though that Elsy’s dad went to California for a week and I was supposed to water the trees - but I forgot.
