Web Site Perfomace Issues

I went to check out this site this morning and it was taking a long time to load.

I tried several different things and finally had to upgrade my statistics plug-in that I use which fixed the problem.

I did not find that out right away though. I upgraded WordPress to the new 2.1 alpha release which them broke the theme that I was using. The site needed a new look anyway so uploaded and new theme which then broke my Flickr plug-in.

After spending all that time hunting down all the bugs I have not had time to fix the Flickr issue so those pictures are not available right now. I will try to fix it within the next few days.

The Visits are Over – Let the Projetcs Begin!

Wow!

I do not think that I have taken trips back and forth to airport so many times in such a short stretch on time.

It fun to show off the house to everyone that came out and we are thankful for all the presents that you brought for tour nice new house :-) .

With the visits concluded there are a whole long list of projects that are now being looked at for the house.

A few of these projects are:

  • The kid’s room
  • Some kind of water containment system for the rainwater in the front flower bed.
  • Ceiling fans (our course)
  • A garden for Elsy
  • A wall for the new room

There are other lurking out there but these are the ones closet on the horizon.

Look for posts in the future on these!

A break on Projects for a Few Weeks

We are going to be taking a break for a few weeks from projects on the house.

The reason is that we have 3 different visits from friends and family that are going to be taking place over the next few weeks.

Because of that I will not be working on anything and thus probably will not be posting anything until I do pickup a new project.

Until then have a good 4th of July!

New Photos Added

flickr_logo_beta.gifI have just upgraded my Flickr account to “Pro” and uploaded some of the construction photos.

I have a whole bunch of other construction photos on my other computer so I will be uploading those shortly also.

I will probably still link to the individual photos the way I have been (with the overlay pop-up) but will provide a link to the photo set if available.

New Post Category – Projects

I have added a new Category – Projects.

Projects are all the different things that we are going to do with the house once we get the keys. Each individual project will get it’s own sub-category under the projects category.

A few of these things will be -

  • Seal the grout for our tile floors
  • Installing ceiling fans
  • Water sealing our wood fence
  • Adding a wood deck to the back yard

Most of these things are going to happen before we even move into the house. You should start seeing posts on projects right away.

Importing Posts from the The Masters Family Web Site

This is just a quick post to let you know that I imported the posts from www.themastersfamily.net/category/our-house/ posts as those are the posts in regards to the construction of the house.

I have also back-dated the post The Masters House Inaugural Post from May 5, 2006 to December 15, 2005 so that it is really the inaugural post.

The posts that are imported are going to retain their original dates so people can get an accurate account of the construction of the house.

For right now the photos will post back to themasterFAMILY.net web site until I have the time to upload all the pictures to a new Flickr account.

Enjoy!

The Masters House Inaugural Post

Hey there!

This is our brand new web site – The Masters House.

This web site is blog documenting the improvements and projects done to our new DR. Horton house which is located in Round Rock, TX

These improvements can be anything from changing the type of light bulb that we use for energy purposes to building an additional room on the house.

Some of the projects that you will see on this web site will be -

  • How to seal grout for tile floors
  • How to install sealing fans
  • How to water seal your wood fence
  • How to build a wood deck
  • How to build a brick planter
  • How to build a children’s jungle gym
  • How to build a wall to add a room to your house

All these things will be done by me, Dan Masters, an average guy who works for an internet company. I am not a contractor. I am just a guy with a nice new house that wants to make it into a home.

Now do not expect all these things to be done in one weekend. I do not even have the house yet! We are getting it a week. But I will be doing stuff to it even before we move in.

So check back often, or even better, sign up to get email updates of when we post here. Each post will give you the opportunity to make comments and we may even add a forum in the future.

Until then have a browse around, we already have our About page up which has a lot of information about the house and the author. The are also a couple of photos uploaded too. If you want to drop me an e-mail head over to our Contact page.
