Now that we are in the house we are getting a feel for the different things that we want to change.
In the apartment we pretty much were having the Air Conditioner all day and night since it is starting to get warm. The issue with this is that we had one of those manual thermostats where you cannot really tell what temperature you are at. Also you cannot schedule the temp as most of the time you do not need the temperature to be as cool during the night as you do during the day.
We had the same issue in the house.
To fix this I headed over to home depot to buy an electronic thermostat. The prices can range from $20 to hundreds if you want. I opted for a $25 model that has 4 different “time zones” 6am to 8am, 8am to 6pm, 6pm to 10pm, and 10pm to 6am. This allows you to set a temperature for each zone.
You can also set different temps for zones for different days. For example if no one was home during the day Monday through Friday then you could have the temp real warm to save on energy costs. Then you could have it cool starting at the 6pm zone.
The installation was simple as there are 4 color-coded wires that you unscrew from the old thermostat and screw into the new one. You can see pictures on my install here.
We are going to try 76 degrees during the day and 78 at night fro right now to see how it goes.
