Well this weekend Elsy's got inspired while we were are Walmart and decided that she wants to start on decorating Genesis bedroom (look for a post coming from Elsy shorty on this).
My part of this project was to paint Genesis's ceiling fan.
I under took the task of priming and them painting the different parts.
This having been the first time that I really have done a project like this I ran into a few snags.
The first was the fact that we had gotten a green paint that was meant to be semi-transparent as to let the original color show through also (we did not realize this – we thought that it was solid paint). That is a cool concept and everything but the base color was the primer in which I had chosen the color black. So now we had a nice satin black with a green tint. to top it off I ran out of green about 2/3's of the way through which equaled another trip to the store.
Elsy was alright with the color so she instructed me to get the same paint. That would have been fine but I discovered after arriving at Walmart that we had already taken the last can of that color. I was planning to go to Home Depot anyway so not a big deal right? Wrong. Home Depot did not have it either (in fact they did not have near the variety of paint that Walmart did – weird).
Anyway I chose a solid paint that I thought to be a close match.
On to the blades.
To sum it up I had to sand the blades with some fine sand paper and do another couple of coats the last which was this morning before I came to work. The parts are now drying and need to for the next couple of days before they are ready for assembly.
The moral of the story – clean up you work area before you paint and don't paint when it is windy – lesson learned.
Elsy will be posting on her adventures inside the house shortly.
