Our New House

DSC00444-2.JPGWell we went to Texas to look at houses and ended up buying one! It seems that if you want a new house you need to purchase it 5-6 months in advance.

We looked around several different areas around the Austin area and finally decided on Round Rock. In looking at the area and people you would think that you were in Orange County. The Round Rock area is about 20 miles north of Austin and is known as the “Little Silicone Valley”. Dell Computer is about 10 minutes from the house and they are building 2 new hospitals within 15 minutes (where Elsy will be looking for a job).

The specifics of the house are:

  • Builder: D.R. Horton
  • Square Feet: 2137
  • Rooms: 4 including a formal dining room, regular dining room, and family room.
  • Corner lot (so it is a little bit bigger the the standard size)

We had been looking at KB Homes but they were either too expensive or not in the areas that we were looking. Also, this builder offered a whole lot of things that were standard that were options with KB.

Some of the things that were included are:

  • 3 sides brick
  • Wiring for ceiling fans in every room
  • Sod in the front / back yards
  • Painted walls (instead of standard white)
  • Tile in the entry, kitchen, baths, laundry, and baths.
  • All appliances – gas stove, dishwasher, fridge, washer and dryer
  • Covered patio

The house is scheduled to be finished in June so we will be looking to move about that time.

We are really excited!

I was wondering if it has a basement? Is that typical/common where you live?

    Our first commenter – Thanks!

Our house does not have a basement.

In our search for houses I do not recall seeing any that had that option.

I do not think that basements are a very common option for new construction now (at least in the southwest).
