My wife is the luck one that gets to do our taxes this year so all I have to do is compile the lists of information.

One of the lists that I need to compile was how much we spent on home improvement this past year. After making the list it is surprising to see that putting water seal on the fence cost almost exactly the same amount as turning our dining room into a bedroom.

All-in-all we did some pretty cool stuff and did not even break $1000 which is really nice.

Below is the list so you can have an idea how much it costs to do various projects:

• Water Seal Fence - $285 + Tax = 308.51
  • Thompson’s Water seal stain - $80 each x 3 = $240.00
  • Spayer to spray water seal - $20
  • Tarps, brushes, and rollers - $25
• Electronic Thermostat - $29.95 + Tax = $34.42
• Ceiling Fans - $209.70 + Tax = $227.00

  • 2″ x 4″ x 8′ studs - Qty 17 @ $2.11 each = $35.87
  • 2″ x 4″ x 12′ studs - Qty 4 @ $2.95 each = $11.80
  • 4′ x 12′ Drywall - Qty 4 @ $11.58 each = $46.32
  • Framing Nail - Qty 2 boxes @ $5.69 each = $11.38
  • Drywall Screws - Qty 3 boxes @ $4.25 each = $12.75
  • Black and Decker Hammer Drill - $29.95
  • Masonry drill bit set - $8.95
  • Foundation Anchors - Qty 4 @ $2.95 = 11.80
  • 2″ arbor drill bit - $8.95
  • 50′ electrical wire 18 gauge - $29.95
  • Electrical Boxes - qty 5 @ $0.75 each = $3.75
  • Electrical Switches - Qty 3 @ $1.00 each = $3.00
  • Electrical Outlets - Qty 3 @ $1.00 each = $3.00
  • Electrical Switch/Outlet face plates - Qty 6 @ $1.00 each = $6.00
  • Drywall Tape - $2.00
  • Drywall Mud - Qty 2 boxes @ $6.50 each = $13.00
  • Paint - 1 gallon $19.95
  • Shelf Trim - $26.50
  • Door Trim - Qty 2 @ $12.95 each = $25.90
  • Baseboards - Qty 24′ @ $1.08/foot = $25.92

The above list really encourages me for this year as there are more things that we want to do in the yard as opposed to in the house.
